For a heartbeat in the early-70s,Savoy Brown ranked amongst the biggest exports of the British blues scene, and while 1973's Lion's Share and Jack The Toad effectively mark the moment when the band's success cooled, these remastered gems rarely put а foot wrong. Played back-to-back, Lion and Toad are very different animals, mainly because vocalist Dave Walker is replaced by Jackie Lynton for the second album, but also because the music starts off raw and ragged on Lion tracks like Shot in The Head, and ends with the bonhomie of а pub jam on Toad standouts such as Coming Down Your Way. Both albums are equally likeable - and seeing as they come in а double-CD set, there's no need to choose.
