Gorillaz-D-Sides
PARLOPHONE
Sketches from Damon Aibarn's cartoon band.
Even virtual bands, it seems, feel the need to behave like their 3D counterparts when it comes to milking hit records. This is Gorillaz's second collection of offcuts after 2002's G-Sides, the companion to their debut album. Here, two discs compile the B-sides from 2005's Demon Days and a selection of remixes from the good (DFA), the boring (Soulwax) and the utterly intolerable (Jamie T). There are a couple of moments that nearly display some emotion - the loping dub of Bill Murray, the dreamy neon-lit War Child ballad Hong Kong - but it's hard to shake the idea that you might as well collect trainers or Japanese beer bottles as Gorillaz B-sides. Unsurprisingly for a 2D project, it's all a little flat.
